A Free API for Any Company Building on Vehicle Tracking Data

If your company wants to build software on top of GPS tracking, kill switch control, or device telemetry, MooveTrax's API is free to use. There's no paid developer tier and no enterprise sales process -- you email support, tell us your redirect and webhook URLs, and you're building.

How to get access

  1. Decide on a redirect URL and a webhook URL for your application.
  2. Email support@moovetrax.com with both.
  3. You'll receive a client_id and client_secret for OAuth authorization.
  4. Build against the same endpoints that power the MooveTrax app itself.
POST https://b.moovetrax.com:8088/oauth/token { "client_id": "{client_id}", "client_secret": "{client_secret}", "grant_type": "authorization_code", "code": "{authorizationCode}", "redirect_uri": "{redirect_url}" }

What's available

  • OAuth integration -- standard authorization-code flow with refresh tokens, so your app can connect to a user's MooveTrax account without storing their credentials.
  • Device commands -- lock, unlock, kill, and unkill a vehicle remotely from your own application.
  • Detection API -- read device and vehicle status directly.
  • Webhooks -- real-time events for ACC on/off, mileage updates, battery level, geolocation, and user geofence crossings, pushed to your own endpoint instead of requiring you to poll.

A few other GPS tracker companies, like Bouncie, also publish a developer API. What's different about MooveTrax's is the access model: no separate paid API tier, no sales call to get a quote -- just an email, and you're issued credentials.

What people build with it

  • Custom fleet dashboards for rental or delivery operations
  • Insurance verification tools that check live tracking status
  • Turo or peer-to-peer rental marketplace features -- scheduling, guest access, automated handoffs
  • Custom alerting -- geofence breaches, low battery, unexpected ACC activity -- routed into your own notification system instead of the MooveTrax app

Frequently asked questions

Is the MooveTrax API really free?

Yes. There's no paid developer tier and no sales call required. Any company building on top of MooveTrax's tracking, kill switch, or device data can request access -- email support@moovetrax.com with your desired redirect URL and webhook URL to get a client_id and client_secret.

What can I build with it?

The API covers OAuth-based account linking, device commands (lock, unlock, kill/unkill), a detection API, and webhooks for ACC on/off, mileage, battery level, geolocation, and user geofence events. That's enough to build a fleet dashboard, a custom alerting tool, an insurance integration, or a rental marketplace feature on top of MooveTrax-equipped vehicles without building your own tracking hardware.

How is this different from other GPS tracker APIs?

A few other providers in this space, like Bouncie, also publish a developer API. The difference with MooveTrax is access: there's no separate paid API tier or enterprise sales process to get started -- it's a direct email request, and you're building against the same endpoints that power the MooveTrax app itself.

Does this work for Turo-specific tools?

Yes -- this is a common use case. If you're building a tool for Turo hosts (scheduling, guest access, fleet dashboards, insurance verification), the Device Commands and webhook events are built around exactly this kind of rental workflow, since that's what MooveTrax's own hardware is designed for.

What's the first step to get access?

Decide on a redirect URL and a webhook URL for your application, then email support@moovetrax.com with both. Full endpoint-level documentation -- authorization flow, token refresh, request/response formats -- is at /documentation once you're set up.
